Lakelse (Mount Layton) Hot Springs
The Northwest’s historic resort springs — closed, with a geothermal future in discussion.
Between Terrace and Kitimat, Lakelse (Mount Layton) Hot Springs is among the largest and hottest spring systems in BC’s northwest, with a resort history stretching back to the early 1900s. But the Mount Layton resort has been closed to the public for years, its waterslides and buildings sitting derelict since the region’s 1990s downturn.
There is real movement, though: in 2023 Kitselas Geothermal — a partnership of the Kitselas First Nation — gained access to the hot springs property to develop geothermal energy and potentially revive the site. Until anything opens, there is no public soaking here.
