Hot springs in Vancouver Island
Vancouver Island has exactly one hot spring you can visit — and it might be the most memorable in the province. At Hot Springs Cove, a ~50°C geothermal stream pours over a waterfall and down through rock pools that step straight into the Pacific, at the end of a 1.5 km cedar boardwalk in Maquinna Marine Provincial Park.
Getting there is the adventure: about 27 nautical miles northwest of Tofino by tour boat — whale sightings en route are common — or twenty minutes by floatplane. The springs sit in Ahousaht territory, and Ahousaht-owned Ahous Adventures runs daily tours in season.
Season notesAim for a morning departure and check the tide tables — at high tide the lowest pools take waves over the rocks, which is either the best or worst part depending on your nerve.
